Serving Up Gratitude To Swampscott Veterans

SWAMPSCOTT – The Military Friends Foundation collected more than 100 gift boxes Tuesday outside 212 Humphrey Street to welcome Swampscott veterans to receive Thanksgiving gifts.

The Military Friends Foundation's "Hero Meals" program is a way of saying "thank you" to those who have defended the United States of America both at home and abroad. Veterans who sign up for the gift receive a $100 gift card, a gift box with groceries and cider, cookies and nuts. There are 125 Swampscott veterans on the list. On the same day, a similar event was organized in Springfield by the Friends of the Military Foundation.

The Military Friends Foundation is a recognized 501c3 tax-deductible charitable organization formed after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. It has provided millions of dollars in personal assistance to military families and families of the deceased.

"We have people here today whose loved ones served on the front lines. We have World War II veterans and World War II families. "It's great for us to see all generations." It's friends of the Military Foundation. That's according to executive director Sarah Sweeney.

BOSTON — The Friends of the Military Foundation, a nonprofit that prides itself on serving the Massachusetts National Guard Reserve and the families of those killed, is helping local Guardsmen get home in time for Thanksgiving. The soldier, injured during his service, belongs to Battery E, 101st Artillery of the Massachusetts National Guard, from Rehoboth and is on a one-year mission in Iraq.

The Military Friends Foundation "supported our mission and, more importantly, has supported our family from our mobilization in December 2010 to the present day. Airfare, heating bills and other expenses incurred by the families of our soldiers during deployment We have received thousands of dollars in allowances and compensation to offset or defer the expenses."To all of you who have supported this program, we cannot thank you enough."
